The Atlantic Link is being developed by Emera Inc., which is 100% owner of the project.
Emera is a publicly traded company with approximately CDN $28 billion in assets.
Emera is currently constructing the 500 MW Maritime Link – a 110-mile subsea HVdc cable between the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland & Labrador and Nova Scotia, to deliver energy from the Muskrat Falls hydro project. The Maritime Link will be in service on time, in 2017, and is on budget.
New Brunswick Power holds an option to participate in the Atlantic Link as a minority investor. NB Power has strong transmission interconnections with Maine, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Québec – and a long history of serving electricity customers in New England.
NB Power and Emera were partners in developing a cross-border transmission project between Canada and the U.S. - the Northeast Reliability Interconnect (NRI), which has been in-service since 2007.
